The Urban League Guild of Hampton Roads extends public understanding and support of the Urban League of Hampton Roads and its programs. The Guild promotes volunteer participation and leadership development in the areas of community service, fundraising and advocacy with a focus on education, employment, health and housing. The Guild is an auxiliary of the Urban League of Hampton Roads and a member of the National Council of Urban League Guilds.
Guild members volunteer their time, talent and resources to improve the quality of life in Hampton Roads. Guild membership is open to all persons with a strong desire to support the Urban League of Hampton Roads and its mission through committed volunteer participation in Guild programs and activities. The
Urban League Guild of Hampton Roads is truly “the heart and soul of the Urban League movement.”
Programs
Project VOTE!, a signature program of the Urban League Guild of Hampton Roads, is a community action campaign designed to
improve citizen awareness of the importance of the vote, to encourage voter registration, to increase participation in local, state and national elections and to educate citizens without voter rights about restoration.
Project VOTE! is a never-ending campaign. The Guild endeavors to make voting and participation in the legislative process a life-long habit for citizens in Hampton Roads.

What can I/we do?
- VOTE! in all local, state and national elections
- Help spread the word about the importance of voting
- Educate yourself about issues in your community
- Let your elected officials know what you think about community issues
- Form a partnership with the Urban League Guild of Hampton Roads to co-sponsor Project VOTE! activities
- Get the Project VOTE! Toolkit
- Make Project VOTE! presentations at churches, high schools, civic and neighborhood meetings, colleges and universities, during Black History month, Women’s History month, etc.
- Co-sponsor candidate forums
- Encourage family friends to register to VOTE!
- Conduct voter registration drives
- Assist people in securing the proper ID to vote
- Work polls on election days
- Take family and friends with you to VOTE! on election days
- Take people without transportation to the polls on election days
- Conduct voter restoration seminars
- Measure the results of your activities under the umbrella of Project VOTE!

This toolkit has been prepared to assist community individuals and/or organizations to educate citizens about voting at community meetings and functions.
