The Urban League of Hampton Roads is now hiring for several full-time and part-time positions.


Full-time Early Intervention Specialist

Position Summary:

This position provides short term intensive client-centered case management to help link clients with HIV to health care and psychosocial services. The case management services include initial intake and assessment, assessment of client strengths, emerging needs, and referrals for medical services, psychosocial support and other supportive service providers. The Early Intervention Specialist maintains follow up with referrals and interventions to ensure linkage to care. Case management assists in the reduction of missed appointments, substance abuse relapses and increased client adherence to medication regiment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct new client intakes
  • Provide short term case management ensuring client adherence to medical appointments.
  • Refer clients to service providers for medical related needs (i.e. transportation, prescription assistance, etc.)
  • Provide educational material and information to individuals of the high risk populations (minorities, IV drug users, sex workers, transgender, MSM’s, WSW’s etc.)
  • Administer OraSure Rapid Testing.
  • Establish linkages to organizations in the community and secure their assistance In educating individuals I the target group.
  • Assist in developing educational materials appropriate to target groups.
  • Assist in recruiting, training and supervising volunteers assigned to work in Early Intervention Services.
  • Provide information relating to early intervention activities and submit monthly reports to the Program Manager.
  • Participate in the design/selection of appropriate educational materials about HIV/AIDS for use throughout the community.
  • Collaborate with other educators throughout ULHR service area as a consultant and resource for information about HIV/AIDS, and STD infection.



  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or human services.

Part-time Workforce Development Coach

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for assisting individuals in the job search process. This includes facilitation and one-on-one coaching in order to assist the program participant in finding a job.  This position will also work with local businesses in order to locate available positions to refer clients to.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop collaborative partnerships with agencies and employer partners in the United Way of the Virginia Peninsula service area.
  • Conduct client intake to include obtaining demographics, proof of income, etc.
  • Interviews, screens and refers applicants to available job openings.
  • Maintains client files to include documentation of progress notes.
  • Inputs client data in Apricot client management system.
  • Facilitates job readiness classes and other life skills enrichment seminars.
  • Provides community outreach activities to recruit program participants
  • Contacts prospective employers to locate job openings.
  • Maintains working relationships with employers.
  • Counsels and coaches applicants for job interviews and placement.
  • Conducts employment follow-up activities after client is hired for a period of sixty days.




  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in sociology, business, education, counseling or related field and supervisory experience.
  • Experience in assisting individuals in the job search process and case management.
  • Must have the ability to plan, direct and coordinate community services to reach diverse target markets.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to work varied hours to assist clients (evenings/weekends).
  • ·        A valid driver’s license and operational vehicle is required.

Position Location: Hampton and surrounding areas on the Peninsula (Virginia)




·       Bachelor or Master’s degree in Communications, Education, Business, Sociology, or related field required.

·       Minimum of 10 years of office management experience.

·        Excellent communication and public speaking ability.

·        Excellent organizational skills with the ability to track and monitor assignments

·        Good computer skills, i.e. Microsoft Outlook, Word, Power point, Excel.

·        Must be able to well with people from diverse cultural, economic and educational backgrounds

·        Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and or meetings.

·        Must be able to process and maintain confidential information.
