Health Program

Health Services

The Urban League of Hampton Roads addresses the long-standing healthcare disparities that hinder the well-being of African Americans and other minorities.

The Urban League of Hampton Roads provides a variety of health services to support the well-being of individuals and families in our community. Through our programs, men, women, and children can access needed medical services, including HIV/AIDS case management, which ensures that those affected receive the support and resources they need. We run Urban Wellness programs designed to help mothers, college students, and individuals looking to improve their nutrition and overall health. These initiatives empower people to make informed decisions for a healthier lifestyle.

To promote wellness in communities of color, we combine advocacy, outreach, and direct services. Additionally, we offer important resources to help communities stay informed and protected against COVID-19. By addressing a range of health concerns, the Urban League is committed to closing health gaps and ensuring everyone has access to care. Together, we are working to create stronger, healthier communities throughout Hampton Roads.

By the Numbers

Urban Cares Collaboration & Outreach

Our Urban Cares Collaboration and Outreach initiative connects individuals  in the Hampton Roads community to essential resources and services that support their health and well-being. Through community partnerships, we provide access to medical care, mental health services, and educational resources to address diverse needs across the seven cities.

Since early 2024, the partnership between Birdsong Health Literacy Center of Excellence (BHLCOE) and the Urban League of Hampton Roads (ULHR) has strengthened community health efforts by combining expertise, culturally tailored education, and trusted outreach.

We are continuing this effort with our new Health Corner which provides FREE health education via games, newsletters, and other accessible resources.
