Building Trust Through Access: ULHR Joins Fishing Point Community Health Day

On March 29, 2025, the Urban League of Hampton Roads Health Team joined Fishing Point Healthcare and several local partners to celebrate the opening of Fishing Point’s new location in downtown Newport News. The Fishing Point Community Health Day brought families, youth, and service providers together for a day of connection, care, and celebration.

Hosted in collaboration with the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula, What’s Next, and An Achievable Dream, the event welcomed more than 200 attendees and offered free health screenings, mental wellness support, youth-focused activities, and plenty of fun for all ages. Community members enjoyed live performances from local high school bands and dance teams, bounce houses, free food, giveaways, and a surprise visit from a special celebrity guest.

The ULHR Health Team connected directly with over 75 attendees, offering trusted resources on COVID-19, HIV and sexual health, and medical support for uninsured residents through the Bon Secours Care-A-Van. Guests also received information about the HRT Freedom Pass for teens, the Mindful Nutrition health series, mental health support through the Warm Crisis Line, and a full calendar of community events. Each person left with a booklet highlighting the broad range of services available through ULHR.

The event strengthened ULHR’s visibility as a trusted health partner and Ryan White provider, while also opening the door for deeper collaboration with organizations serving Newport News and surrounding areas.
