QED & ULHR Strengthen Maritime Workforce Development
QED recently welcomed the Urban League of Hampton Roads (ULHR) for a banner presentation event, celebrating the success of our partnership through the Regional Maritime Training System.
This collaboration is designed to create accessible, high-impact training opportunities for individuals pursuing careers in the maritime industry. Through the Regional Maritime Training System:
- 4 ULHR participants have completed the 18-week welding training program
- 2 participants have completed the blueprint reading training program
- 5 participants are currently enrolled in the welding training program
- Nearly 20 additional participants have expressed interest and are applying for upcoming sessions at QED
To further support participant success, QED has launched its first night session, offering greater flexibility for those balancing work, family, or other commitments while learning a skilled trade.
Looking ahead, QED is excited to continue working with ULHR’s Workforce Development Department and Education Team to introduce Project Ready students to skilled trades—expanding access and awareness of maritime career pathways for generations to come.
