April is recognized as Second Chance Month, a time dedicated to uplifting individuals who are rebuilding their lives after incarceration.

It’s an opportunity for communities to come together in support of returning citizens—our neighbors, family members, and friends—who deserve access to the tools and opportunities needed for a fresh start. By raising awareness and breaking down barriers, we affirm the belief that everyone deserves the dignity of a second chance and the support to thrive beyond their past.

To support this effort, the Urban League of Hampton Roads is proud to participate in the 2nd Annual Hampton Roads Returning Citizens Career & Wellness Fair. Scheduled for April 26, 2025, at 9:00 AM, this event aims to connect returning citizens with employers committed to offering second chances, as well as provide resources for career readiness and wellness.

The fair is a collaborative effort with the Office of the Attorney General and Revive Community of Virginia, underscoring a community-wide commitment to supporting individuals transitioning back into the workforce.

Join us in honoring and creating second chances. Confirm your attendance below via Eventbrite and we’ll get you ready.

Returning Citizens Helped

Breaking records and barriers.

The first Hampton Roads Returning Citizens Career & Wellness Fair became the largest event of its kind in Virginia—an inspiring milestone in community advocacy for justice-impacted individuals.

The fair brought together over 30 employers and more than 200 returning citizens for a day centered on opportunity, support, and empowerment. Attendees connected with local organizations offering career coaching, wellness services, and real pathways to employment.

More than just a job fair, this event fostered a sense of belonging and reaffirmed the region’s collective commitment to second chances and meaningful reintegration.
