Help Us Visualize the “Beloved CommUNITY”: Calling all Photographers, Visual Artists and Graphic Designers in Hampton Roads

Each year, the Urban League of Hampton Roads (ULHR) hosts one of the region’s premier events to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We are currently accepting submissions for artwork to be featured in our 2026 Commemorative Souvenir Book and potentially displayed at our annual gala.

This is a unique opportunity to have your work viewed by over 1,400 regional leaders, sponsors, and community members.

The 2026 Theme: “Becoming the Beloved CommUNITY” Our theme draws inspiration from Dr. King’s vision of a world without hate—a society where everyone is cared for and treated with dignity.

This year’s keynote speaker is Ms. Carly Fiorina, Honorary National Chair of VA250. As we approach America’s 250th anniversary in 2026, Virginia is leading the “America – MADE IN VIRGINIA” campaign. In this spirit, we are seeking images that reflect a pluralistic society—honoring Indigenous peoples, settlers, African descendants, and immigrants—and making the visual case for respect and community connection.

Selected Artists Will Receive:

  • Payment: $250 for ownership of the selected photo/design.

  • Access: Two (2) complimentary tickets to the MLK Dinner & Dance on January 15, 2026.

  • Exposure: Your work will be printed in over 1,500 souvenir books (120+ pages) distributed to attendees.

  • Sales Opportunity: Artists may display and sell their original work at the event (at a price of their choosing).

  • Royalties: If ULHR reproduces the image in a revenue-generating manner, you will receive a 25% no-cap royalty.

Submission Deadlines

  • Step 1: Express Intent to Participate: December 17, 2025

  • Step 2: Final Entry Submission: December 30, 2025
