NSU 2025 Summer Nursing Cohort
The Urban League of Hampton Roads recently welcomed its first summer nursing internship cohort from Norfolk State University, continuing our growing partnership with NSU’s Nursing Program. Since Spring 2024, ULHR has proudly served as a practicum site for four NSU nursing cohorts, providing real-world experience in community health, outreach, and public education.
Over a four-week summer placement, the 2025 NSU Summer Nursing Cohort, made up of graduating seniors, engaged in hands-on community outreach under the supervision of Corasha Dent, a faculty member from the NSU Nursing Program. Interns completed outreach at locations they selected themselves, including the Blocker Norfolk Family YMCA, Jordan-Newby Anchor Branch Library at Broad Creek, Mt. Trashmore, and the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore, distributing ULHR health and resource materials to residents across Hampton Roads.
The interns also supported ULHR’s mission by creating educational infographics on heat safety and men’s mental health for social media and public use. These student-designed resources extended our health messaging and promoted wellness during critical seasonal and awareness periods.
Their experience culminated in full participation at our 4th Annual Juneteenth Celebration, where interns managed the first aid and education tables, conducted oxygen and heart rate checks, and provided family-friendly health education activities.
ULHR is committed to training the next generation of nurses through meaningful, community-based learning experiences.
