  • Urban League of Hampton Roads and Kam Cares Foundation to Host Second Back-to-School Supplies Drive


Children in Norfolk’s Park Place Community to Receive New Backpacks and School Supplies


WHAT:                  The Kam Cares Foundation and the Urban League of Hampton Roads (ULHR) will provide backpacks filled with school supplies for approximately 200 children in the Park Place community.  To augment donations, the ULHR and Kam Cares Foundation have also launched a public donation drive to solicit support from the community.  Local businesses and community residents are encouraged to bring supplies or monetary donations to the ULHR Norfolk and Virginia Beach offices during business hours from August 11-25, 2014.  Community residents are also encouraged to bring donations to James Monroe Elementary School on Tuesday, August 26 between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., where students will assemble to receive  backpacks filled with supplies for the upcoming school year.  The distribution of backpacks and supplies will begin at 10 a.m.


WHO:                    The Kam Cares Foundation, founded by NFL Super Bowl champion Kam Chancellor of the Seattle Seahawks, has joined forces with the Urban League of Hampton Roads to identify children from low-income families facing the greatest need.


WHY:                     Kam Cares Foundation supports the continuous efforts of the Urban League, and its unwavering commitment to meeting the needs of the underserved across Hampton Roads.   Through this partnership, the community-focused organizations are equipping students facing economic difficulties with the tools essential to ensuring a successful school year.
