PROJECT READY SCHOLARSHIPS

The Urban League of Hampton Roads is dedicated to helping youth in the targeted communities of Hampton Roads to succeed in the educational arena and global marketplace. Project Ready is a high school retention and college access program designed to help make our Hampton Roads high school students more competitive in the global marketplace. The program builds rewarding relationships, explores college and career pathways, teaches work and school readiness instills cultural awareness, and provides financial education to prepare students for college, career, and life. Our children are tomorrow’s leaders, and each deserves all the necessary tools to thrive and succeed.

Scholarship Award Components:

The Urban League of Hampton Roads will provide scholarships to deserving high school graduating seniors intending to pursue a course of study at a two-year or four-year educational institution. Students will be selected to receive a scholarship that will vary from $500 to $10,000.00.

Special Provisions:

College scholarship awards will be submitted directly to the recipient’s chosen school by May 31, 2022.

  • DEADLINE EXTENDED! Deadline for scholarship applications is April 8, 2022, 11:59 p.m. EST (no exceptions).
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  • Scholarship winners will be notified by email.

Scholarship Award Criteria:

  1. Applicant must be a graduating high school senior or enrolled in a high school equivalency (GED) program (ages 16-19) located within Hampton Roads, Virginia.
  2. Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 2.5.
  3. Applicant must complete the scholarship application and personal essay.
  4. Applicant must prove a copy of their current FAFSA form.
  5. Applicant must provide an official and recent high school transcript.
  6. Applicant must provide two letters of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, administrator, fraternity/sorority officers, supervisor/managers, parole officer or community leader with knowledge of the applicant’s character and/or ability.
  7. Applicant must have registered and attended at least 2 Project Ready Virtual Sessions. If you did not have a chance to register or attend, you can view previously recorded sessions.

CAREER STIPENDS

If you are planning on entering into the workforce after graduation, we also offer career stipends to deserving high school graduating seniors intending to start their careers directly after high school. Students will be selected to receive a career stipend that will vary from $500 to $1,000.
