The Urban League of Hampton Roads Announce New President for Young Professionals

Patricia Gibson takes the position after serving as YP Vice President

NORFOLK, Va. (July 27, 2022) – Today the Urban League of Hampton Roads announces Patricia Gibson will be taking the helm as President of the Urban League of Hampton Roads Young Professionals (ULHRYP). The Young Professionals (YP) represent Urban League members between the ages of 24 to 40. Gibson has served as the YP Vice President for the past year and was sworn in as President at the 2022 National Urban League Annual Conference in Washington, DC on Wednesday, July 20.

“We are thrilled to have Patricia’s continued leadership of the Young Professionals of the Urban League of Hampton Roads,” said Gil Bland, President & CEO for the Urban League of Hampton Roads. “Patricia has been a talented, devoted advocate for the important work and mission of the Urban League of Hampton Roads, and we are excited to welcome her in this official role and see how the Young Professionals flourishes under her guidance.”

Gibson is a graduate of Norfolk State University. She is the Director of Employment and Corporate Partnerships for the Urban League of Hampton Roads, and a licensed REALTOR. In addition, she has an extensive resume of volunteerism with organizations supporting military families and led to her being recognized as the 2015 Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year Award for Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay. She has served in the Urban League movement since 2015 with the San Diego Urban League Young Professionals.

Jason Inge formerly served as the YP President since 2015 and was responsible for engaging ULHRYP members in the Hampton Roads community. From advocacy work with elected officials, holiday toy and food drives, voter registration, youth and senior engagement, Jason Inge was instrumental in supporting the ULHR affiliate pillar programs and events year-round. “We wish Jason Inge well as he chose this time to step down serving as a loyal President for ULHRYP. He is an accomplished young man with a bright future, and we are equally as excited to watch him continue to soar into new leadership roles,” added Gil Bland.

The mission of the ULHRYPs is to engage young professionals in the Urban League of Hampton Roads’ movement towards the achievement of social and economic equality. The group of empowered young professionals are between the ages 21 and 40 and live, work, and serve in the Hampton Roads area.

The YP organization is an avenue to enhancing leadership skills through professional development programs. ULHRYP is dedicated to the personal and professional growth of its members. Along with development, they offer additional access to social and cultural events to sharpen networking skills and act as an outlet for members to give back to the community.
