ULHR Gives Away 1K Backpacks for Student Readiness
During the month of August, the Urban League of Hampton Roads (ULHR) hosted its annual School Supply Drive, ensuring that local K–12 students started the school year prepared and confident. Across three events in Virginia Beach, Hampton, and Chesapeake, more than 1,000 backpacks filled with essential school supplies were distributed to families.
This effort was made possible thanks to the generous sponsorship of Walmart, which provided many of the supplies that filled each backpack. Their leadership support, combined with contributions from additional partners, ensured that students had the tools they need to succeed in the classroom.
Each giveaway was a celebration of community and opportunity. Families enjoyed music, games, food, and activities that turned back-to-school readiness into a joyful experience.
The event’s success was further strengthened by the support of community partners, including Navy Federal Credit Union, Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast, Higher Purpose Learning, and many more. Together, their collaboration helped ULHR provide not only school supplies but also valuable connections to youth-focused programs and resources.
As part of our commitment to equity in education and youth empowerment, ULHR continues to bridge gaps for students and families across Hampton Roads. Events like this reflect our mission to remove barriers, promote academic success, and create pathways to brighter futures.
