Showing Up and Standing With: ULHR Honors Transgender Day of Visibility

On March 31, 2025, the Urban League of Hampton Roads Health Team joined over a dozen local organizations for the Transgender Day of Visibility event at the Southeastern Transgender Resource Center. The day brought together advocates, allies, and service providers in celebration of the transgender community, with a focus on connection, education, and empowerment.

Hosted in partnership with the LGBT Life Center, the Transgender Assistance Program of Virginia, and New Life Metropolitan Community Church, the event welcomed more than 250 guests and featured a full afternoon of resource sharing, discussions on healthcare access and mental wellness, and space for affirming community-building.

ULHR staff connected with over 100 attendees throughout the day, sharing information about the Mindful Nutritionseries, upcoming Juneteenth programming, and membership opportunities with the Urban League Young Professionals and Guild. The Health Team also collaborated with local partners to strengthen outreach and build visibility around inclusive health services and support.

While limited promotional materials and midday timing posed minor challenges, the event proved to be a valuable opportunity to connect with LGBTQ+ residents, particularly Black trans leaders and advocates. It also helped reinforce ULHR’s commitment to creating inclusive, affirming spaces where all individuals feel supported and seen.
