The partnership between Birdsong Health Literacy Center of Excellence (BHLCOE) and the Urban League of Hampton Roads (ULHR) is grounded in a shared mission to advance health equity, empower historically underserved communities, and increase access to culturally relevant health education. Since its launch in early 2024, this collaboration has become a powerful force for community engagement, innovation, and impact.

This partnership has strengthened ULHR’s Health Team by providing new tools, expert guidance, and deeper community connections—enhancing the reach and quality of our programs. Birdsong’s involvement in key initiatives like Mindful Nutrition and MotherBaby Wellness has brought added value through engaging materials, on-site support, and digital tools like the Rewards for Healthy Living (RFHL) platform. These contributions have helped us better connect with participants and reinforce lasting health behavior change.

Through joint efforts—ranging from community tabling events and resource fairs to health literacy campaigns and grant planning—the partnership continues to evolve as a model for trust-based, cross-sector impact. Together, Birdsong HLCOE and ULHR are not only building stronger programs, but also forging deeper connections with the communities we serve, ensuring that health equity is both a priority and a lived reality.
