PROJECT READY CAREER STIPENDS

The Urban League of Hampton Roads is dedicated to helping youth in the targeted communities of Hampton Roads to succeed in the educational arena and global marketplace. Project Ready is a high school retention and college access program designed to help make our Hampton Roads high school students more competitive in the global marketplace. The program builds rewarding relationships, explores college and career pathways, teaches work and school readiness instills cultural awareness, and provides financial education to prepare students for college, career, and life. Our children are tomorrow’s leaders, and each deserves all the necessary tools to thrive and succeed.

Stipend Award Components:

The Urban League of Hampton Roads will provide career stipends to deserving high school graduating seniors intending to start their careers directly after high school. Students will be selected to receive a career stipend that will vary from $500 to $1,000.

Special Provisions:

Stipend awards will be distributed directly to the recipient.

  • DEADLINE EXTENDED! Deadline for stipend award applications is April 8, 2022, 11:59 p.m. EST (no exceptions).
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  • Scholarship winners will be notified by email.

    Stipend Award Criteria:

    1. Applicant must be a graduating high school senior or enrolled in a high school equivalency (GED) program (ages 16-19) located within Hampton Roads, Virginia.
    2. Applicant must complete the career stipend application and personal essay.
    3. Applicant must provide an official and recent high school transcript.
    4. Applicant must provide two letters of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, administrator, fraternity/sorority officers, supervisor/managers, parole officer or community leader with knowledge of the applicant’s character and/or ability.
    5. Applicant must have registered and attended at least 2 Project Ready Virtual Sessions. If you did not have a chance to register or attend, you can view previously recorded sessions.
